Favorite meal from second visit to Harbour Island:
The winner is our final evening’s dinner at The Landing. Avocado, beet & Stone crab (with coconut almond butter & sunflower sprout) and goat cheese ravioli (with poached shrimp, tea soaked raisins, burnt butter and pine nuts), washed down with a few glasses of rosé. Second place goes to the lobster quesadillas for lunch at Sip Sip paired with their delicious passion fruit Sauvignon Blanc sangria.

Now would ya look at that:
My bestie Tig snapped this of me on our way to the dinner mentioned above.

Knoxville, Tennessee

Lives in:
Miami, Florida

Favorite adventure you’ve been on this summer:
I recently completed my first year in residency and moved from Memphis to Miami to complete my final three years of Anesthesiology training. I’m looking forward to acclimating to the “Capitol of Latin America” and exploring the fun opportunities my new city has to offer. It is mighty different than Tennessee but will surely be doing my best down here to show everyone the charm of Tennesseans.

Now would ya look at that:

  • Warby Parker ‘Downing’ totoise sunglasses.
  • Zara suit.

See You Out There

June 30, 2015

MII_2845-2The Huckberry x Howler Snapback, available in our Huckberry shop!

MII_2857-2

After two months of back to back weddings, it’s break time. This means local adventures together, mostly to our front porch and down to the creek by our house with our pup and cold beers. But adventures always pop up – close and far – and we’re excited to see what fills our empty calendar this month. Got any ideas for us in Georgia?

See you y’all out there.

Music Monday – Dana Swimmer

June 29, 2015

DanaSwimmer002Photographed in Opelika, AL

I heard my first Dana Swimmer song live behind John Emerald Distlling Company with Jess Graves. I snapped this during their performance of “Take What You’re After” (video here). Not pictured above is the rest of the the band: background vocalist Maggie Blauvelt, drummer Parker Lusk, leader guitarist John Riccitelli and bassist Danny Hurley. The three above slayed their one take for us and we were sold. I turned off the cameras, Jess and I looked at each other, and one of just blurted out “wow…y’all are really good!” Jack’s voice is rock and soul and easy to love. You can read a little more about Athens based Dana Swimmer on The Love List’s Meet Me in Lebanon story.

Drink This – Pimm’s Cup

June 26, 2015

PimmsCup

The Drink: If you Google “the best Pimm’s Cup in the world,” Jamie’s recipe on BarNotes is the first thing you’ll see. And it totally is.

Jamie wanted make a Pimm’s Cup for a dinner club. After doing a ton of research he discovered that, like so many classic cocktails, there are tons of ways people make their Pimm’s Cups. The main split is between the UK and American version. The UK (the originators) use lemonade and Pimm’s. The American’s (that’s us) use lemonade and Pimm’s. But what’s the difference? Well, “lemonade” in the UK is more like ginger ale. So, Jamie took the best of both words. He created this using fresh American lemonade (lemon juice + simple syrup) and lemonade (but with ginger beer instead of ale).

  • 2 oz Pimm’s No. 01
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup (1:1)
  • Gosling’s ginger beer
  • 2 strawberries
  • 2 lemon wheels
  • 2 sprigs of mint
  • Thin cucumber slice

Drop 1 strawberry, lemon wheel and 1 sprig of mint in the bottom of a Collins glass for a bottom of the glass garnish.
Add lemon juice, simple syrup, and Pimm’s.
Add ice and top with ginger beer.
Garnish with lemon wheel, half a strawberry, spring of mint and a thin cucumber slice.

The Glass: Collins glass from The Boston Shaker.

Drink This – Melon Stand

June 25, 2015

MelonStand

The Drink: This is another one from The PDT Cocktail Book that we’d never made before. It sounded like summer in a glass and turns out, that’s exactly what it is. It is SO DAMN REFRESHING! All caps. This was created by Jane Danger who named it after her Minnesota dream bar, Jane’s Sweet Melon Stand. We slightly adapted it by adding mint which really brought it home for us.

  • 2 oz gin – the recipe calls for Plymouth but we used FEW American gin. Any straight gin would work in this, just avoid dry.
  • 1 oz watermelon juice
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz Aperol
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • Sprig of mint

Slap mint to release oils and drop in the shaker.
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled Collins glass filled with crushed ice.
Garnish with 3 watermelon balls on a pick.

The Glass: Collins glass from The Boston Shaker.
