Lives in:
Nashville, Tennessee

Tell everyone about Salemtown Board Co:
Salemtown Board Co. started as an attempt to engage the young men of our neighborhood. After moving to Nashville I founded the company with a friend of mine who is a gifted artist, I grew up skating and surfing and had a background in woodworking so it was a natural fit. Today the company is run by myself and my younger brother. We have hired a few young guys from the community and are working with them through the college application process.

While we grew up in a beach town today we draw our inspiration from the forests and mountains of Tennessee. We are striving to create a brand that is authentically Nashville and make boards that exist as a part of everyone’s favorite weekend adventures.

When you started it:
We cut our first boards in October 2012 and launched a website on Thanksgiving of that year.

The mission:
Our goal is to create as many jobs as possible for people who need them while making skateboards that people love to ride.

Current favorite board:
I am a sucker for our pintail. It’s a classic shape and rides like a surfboard.

Now would ya look at that:
Meet Will Anderson, owner of Salemtown Board Co.

  • J.Crew shirt.
  • Gap selvedge denim (similar).
  • Vans.

Royal Highnies

September 12, 2014

RoyalHighnies

Our great friend Bryan told us about Royal Highnies a few years ago, going on and on about how soft their boxers were. Shortly after, we came across some at Tweeds and he sure was right – these babies are soft! So when they reached out recently to let us know about their lounge pants and ladies shorts, we were all about partnering up for a post. Get learned and then enter for your chance to get some free goods…

_____

What inspired the start of Royal Highnies:
It was simply a quest to make the best boxer short ever.

Who came up with the best boxer name ever:
Booper and Allison (Highnies Founders) + Heineken + Swimming Pool = Royal Highnies.

What’s the magic behind how dang soft they are:
We use the absolute finest 400 count Pima cotton. Building a house for the family jewels requires the best materials.

Anything you can let us know about what’s to come with Royal Highnies:
We are always adding new items to both our Mens and Womens collections, and we hope to expand our “Tiny Highnies” children’s line in the near future!

_____

Giveaway time, y’all!
They’re giving away one pair of lounge pants for the guys and one pair of shorts for the girls.

To enter, comment below with your favorite beverage to have while wearing pajamas.
An extra entry will come your way if you like ’em on Facebook.
A winner will be announced on Thursday, September 18th.

Front Porch

Jamie_FrontPorchPhotographed in Charlotte, TN

Raised in:
Spartanburg, South Carolina

Lives in:
Nashville, Tennessee

Current fashion inspiration:
Definitely my boys at Stitch-It & Co in Nashville. Stitch-It is the best tailor in the South. It is owned by my now close friend Jeff Loring. Billy Reid sends all of their alterations to Jeff. The fellas that work there have all become my close friends. Jeff and the guys who work there each have a unique style. I really love what Jeff does. One day he will rock a three piece bespoke suit looking super fresh, the next day he’ll have on some Chuck Taylors, camo pants from Old Navy and a vintage white linen shirt. His style is a fresh breath of air in the boots and jeans focused town of Nashville.

Now would ya look at that:
I can’t keep count of Jamie‘s appearances anymore, but this is one of my favorite looks so far. I shot this at Front Porch Farms while second shooting Ben and Rachel’s wedding with him.

  • Electric ‘Knoxville’ sunglasses.
  • Brooks Brothers seersucker jacket, from his tailor Jeff Loring’s closet. “Was walking through his house, looking through his 3 closets, grabbed the blazer, and he looked at me and said ‘this looks like it would fit you, try it on.’ I put it on and he said “fits great. It’s yours.”
  • Loring & Co flower lapel and vintage pocket square.
  • Nautica tie.
  • J.Crew skull & bones tie bar, non-iron slim fit shirt and Thompson suit pant (cotton piqué).
  • What you can’t see but worthy of pointing out – his Smathers & Branson Masters belt.
  • Happy Socks ‘Flash’ socks.
  • Cole Haan ‘Air Madison’ monk straps.

BONUS:
Check out the shoot that Jamie did with Stitch-It & Co.
It’s full of incredibly inspiring menswear and of course, beautiful photography.

Music Monday – Matt Corby

September 1, 2014

MattCorby

My buddy Ryan Lee told me about Matt Corby about a year ago. I remember it was August, because when I heard the song I’m sharing below, it resonated so deeply in my soul that it hurt…

I know that for most people, Labor Day marks the beginning of Fall, but I don’t buy it. I think everyone posting their first #PSL of the year are insane, and I will soak up every last ounce of warm weather that God gifts the South with this year.

So back to the song. Pretty much my anthem again this time of year, as it was last year….
It’s the exit track on his Made of Stone EP (2012), but I just love it.

Oh winter is coming way too soon
Oh summer, we party…

Stream: “Winter”
Winter

Listen to more Matt Corby below. I recommend starting with his Live on the Resolution Tour.
iTunes | Spotify

P.S. The first day of Autumn is September 23.
P.P.S. Summer Forever.

Drink This – FEW Rye Whiskey

August 29, 2014

IMG_0297-2

Who would said no to free samples of whiskey and gin? Not me.
FEW Spirits reached out with the offer of a little taste test and it was a success…

Born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, they’re the first legal alcohol-production of any kind in Evanston, a city that banned alcohol sales for four decades beyond the end of Prohibition. They’re a true grain-to-glass distillery. “We ferment, distill and age all of our products ourselves and do not buy whiskey (or any alcohol) from any other producers.”

The Rye is made with 70% Midwestern rye, 20% local corn and 10% two-row malted barley, fermented with wine yeast from France’s Loire Valley. The spiciness “forms the backbone of the spirit,” but it’s also a tad sweet (from the corn) and a hint of fruitiness (from the yeast).

It was named by Whisky Advocate as 2013 Craft Whiskey of the Year. FEW Rye Whiskey also won the only Gold Medal given by the World Whisky Awards in 2014 in its category and won gold from the Beverage Tasting Institute. BTI even rated it as one of the top 5 rye whiskies in the world…

Convinced yet that it’s delicious? You should be.

FEW Rye retails around $60 and is ideal for enjoying neat. However, it does make a killer Manhattan…

  • 2 oz FEW Rye
  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth – I recommend Carpano Antico
  • 2 dash Angostura bitters

Stir ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and strain into a chilled glass.
Garnish with Luxardo maraschino cherries.

Cheers!

SouthernStyleIs 019Photographed in Atlanta, GA

Raised in:
Lawrenceville, Georgia.
My family roots are in Cuba. My grandparents came to the US in the 60’s but we have kept the culture alive…especially the food.

Lives in:
Atlanta, Geogia

Favorite spot in Atlanta right now:
Miso Izakaya. Guy Wong’s Japanese Gastro Pub has pulled at some heartstrings. There isn’t an item on the menu that I don’t obsess over (and the cocktails are just bangin’). I can’t get enough of the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood and all that is happening now and in the months to come.

Now would ya look at that:
Photographed for Southern Living’s “Southern Style Is…” story – see his feature here.

  • J.Crew color block shirt.
  • Sid Mashburn belt.
  • Club Monaco Twill 5-pocket pants.
  • Beams loafers, found in Tokyo (Harajuku).

Jay, Part III

Sjoholm_Wedding_207Photographed in Harbour Island, Bahamas

Raised in:
Alpharetta, Georgia

Lives in:

Favorite thing about Harbour Island:
It’s a contained slice of luxury in the middle of the Caribbean.

Wedding Getup Inspiration:
I wanted to do something that fit with the beach destination wedding theme, and I wanted to be comfortable. The royal blue jacket was an awesome find, as it reminded me of the color of the ocean in Harbour Island. The entire outfit was built around that.

Now would ya look at that:
Jay, who you should know by now as the man behind Red Clay Soul, on his wedding day.
See he and Lindsey’s perfect wedding here. We were honored to be a part of!

  • Brooks Brothers ‘Fitzgerald sport’ coat (similar). Lindsey surprised him with this embroided touch on the big day.
  • Ledbury dress shirt. “I always opt for the slim fit versions of the Ledbury shirts, as the fit is spot on.  The royal twill version is such a luxurious fabric…it fit right in.”
  • Social Primer bow tie (detail). “We had the hardest time finding a bow tie that would work.  I wanted something to dress up the outfit, and when Cooper posted a picture of this upcoming design, I showed it to the future Mrs and got the OK. I called Cooper and ordered five immediately. There are roosters all over Harbour Island; they are the unofficial mascot.”
  • Sid Mashburn hem stitched pocket square.
  • Martin Dingman ‘Anthony’ belt. “I wanted to get my guys something really nice, so I got each of them this Anthony belt with an engraved buckle as a gift for being an attendant.”
  • J.Crew Ludlow Italian Chinos.
  • ByPaige custom ‘JRS’ needlepoint loafers. “I went a little rogue here, and added some flare with these. I absolutely love them…not just for the wedding.”
