Tell everyone about Tweeds:
At it’s core, Tweeds isn’t really about clothes, or accessories, or kick ass antiques… it’s about people. We wanted to create a place that provided an equal mix of curation and friendly council, and focused on each person’s individual needs – allowing clients to define themselves, learn, and stand apart.

I’m doing some limited edition Mast-McBride stuff during holiday, but we’ll designing new neckwear under “Tweeds” for the store, as well as a belt, shoe, and denim line available in early September.

Now would ya look at that:

dcoybrand

August 1, 2013

dcoy

Y’all didn’t think the rebrand meant we aren’t into bow ties anymore, right?

We’re not going to lie to you, it takes a lot for a bow tie company to impress these days. I mean, let’s be honest, there’s about a million of them. When dcoybrand reached out to us, however, we were impressed. Their neckties, bow ties, and pocket squares are made with vintage fabrics sourced from various spots in America. The bows have wooden buttons for size adjustments. Most of all, we loved how each design was part of a small batch. The one they kindly sent us, The Terrence, is only 1 of 8 produced.

And then it arrived, and it became hands down the best packaging of any product we’ve ever seen. The icing on the cake? They’re based in New Orleans. Geaux figure.

Hunter Monsour, founder of dcoybrand, told us that the brand was inspired by his grandfather. “He was so incredibly Americana, a man’s man with an effortless style.” He wanted to create crafted clothing for crafted people, and exceed expectations. “With the entire experience from fabric to packaging, we look to really push the limits of what is expected in apparel. Every piece comes dutifully packaged in hand crafted wooden packaging that really creates a brand experience that is second to none. ” Obviously, we agree.

So, let’s kick off August with another summer giveaway! To enter…

  • Check out dcoybrand’s neckties and bow ties.

Blu Kicks

July 18, 2013

Let the GIF load!

It’s no surprise that we love fun companies, so when “the official shoe of playing hookie” emailed me about their product, I was into it. That, and I’m a sucker for a slip on.

San Francisco based Blu Kicks line is based on the classic boat shoe silhouette of the 1960’s, but with sleeker lines and fun pops of color. My favorite part? The soles. My second favorite part? How dang comfortable they are!

Will and Victoria Leonard (the son/mother duo behind the company) were kind enough to send me the pair of Delta Greens that I’m steppin’ around in up there. Oh and guess what? They want to send one of you a pair, too!

To enter…

  • Go get your shop on (Men’s + Women’s).
  • Leave a comment on this post letting us know your favorite pair.
  • Get an extra entry for Tweeting:
My feet want some @blukicks so I entered @backdownsouth’s giveaway! http://tinyurl.com/blukicksBDS
  • We’ll pick a winner by random on Wednesday, July 24th around cocktail hour!

Suitsupply – Austin

July 10, 2013

Photographed in Atlanta, GA

Raised in:
Kennessaw, Georgia

Lives in:
Atlanta, GA

What mistake you see most men make concerning fit:
The mistake I see men make most is buying their suits too big. The first thing we look for at Suitsupply is if the jacket fits in the shoulders. If the jacket fits in the shoulders, then nine times out of ten a good tailor can alter the rest of the garment to fit everywhere else. If it looks a little big in the shoulders, then we suggest trying one size down. The trousers should also be worn on the “natural waist” and men should always keep in mind that a trouser can be altered through the waist, seat, and leg to ensure a perfect fit.

Now would ya look at that:
Meet Austin, Made to Measure Specialist at Atlanta’s Suitsupply.

Wearing all Suitsupply…

  • Plain blue Washington suit.
  • Cardigan.
  • Mini houndstooth shirt.
  • Bordeaux tie.
  • Double monks.

Danielle

May 16, 2013

Photographed in Nashville, TN

Raised in:
Saratoga, the Adirondack region of New York.

Lives in:
Nashville, Tennessee

What brought you down south:
I moved to Nashville for a grad school program at Vanderbilt, but I stayed in Nashville because of the amazing community. I live in East Nashville which is one of the most creative and supportive communities that a small business owner/artisan could hope to find! Plus, biscuits and gravy are now my favorite meal.

Now would ya look at that:
Meet Danielle, the woman behind New York to Nashville. After moving from New York to Nashville (hence the name), she began selling vintage western wear through an eBay storefront. “Sometimes I would find amazing cowboys shirts that were missing the pearl snap buttons, but the fabric clearly still had a story to tell. I decided to begin crafting pocket squares, cufflinks and earrings from that reclaimed fabric. For every fabric, I let it tell it’s story and name it after a famous (or infamous) historic/Southern character. The South is full of stories that are yet to be told.”

  • Coffee at Barista Barlor.
  • Thrifted Wrangler shirt and suspenders.
  • Levi’s jeans.
  • Lands’ End Canvas moccasin boots.

Hudson Sutler

May 2, 2013

A few weeks ago, Grant Hewit from Hudson Sutler made his way down south from New York City. I had the privilege of shooting their recent lookbook in Atlanta alongside an All Star crew: Gregg of Jack Donnelly, Nick of Brier & Moss, and Jess of The Love List. These are a few of my favorite images we made.

The crew.

Make sure to check out the Atlanta Lookbook for the full story!

Trio Custom Clothiers

April 17, 2013

Photographed in Atlanta, GA

I wanted to meet the guys behind TRIO Custom Clothiers after I saw their suits on our friend, Jonathan (posted here and here). Mark and I recently met them at West Egg and got to know their business, as well as get insight on their newly opened showroom. Since then, we stopped by and got Mark fitted for his first tux and loved our visit. You can order online by sending in measurements, but if you’re in the Atlanta area, or plan on being there soon, we highly recommend visiting the showroom to get the full experience (topped off with some whiskey!)

Now, get to know a little about TRIO…

Raised in:
Ben (left): Warner Robins, Georgia
Mike (right): Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Describe TRIO Custom Clothiers:
We make custom shirts and suits for men. The customer gets measured, then chooses from many style options and fabric to create an outfit unique to them.

What the storefront is like:
The store is more of a consultation center for assisting the average and not-so-average man in building a garment that looks and fits great, incorporating a blend of modern and vintage motifs to reflect our garments’ cut and style.

Why Atlanta:
Not only is Atlanta our beloved home-town, Atlanta is starting to see a resurgence in male fashion, especially that infused with Southern style.

Anything else you want readers to know about TRIO:
Our goal is to provide a surprisingly affordable and convenient custom clothing experience.

Now would ya look at that:

  • Ben: TRIO Italian-wool navy suit, gingham shirt with red, white, and blue gingham bow tie. His shoes were found somewhere in Brussels.
  • Mike: TRIO khaki suit, ‘Meath’ shirt, and Cole Haan shoes.
