Tux

November 13, 2012

Photographed in Chicago, IL

Raised in:
Nashville, Tennessee

Lives in:
Chicago, Illinois

How the South influenced your Chicago wedding:
Being a Southerner getting married in Chicago, I wanted to have a few Southern elements in the wedding. I went with a cotton blossom as my boutonnière. We also used a lot of magnolia leaves in our floral arrangements. And to top it off, I had to go with a red velvet cake in the shape of an armadillo for the groom’s cake (just like in the movie Steel Magnolias).

Now would ya look at that:
You’ve seen Paul twice here before: once + twice. Mark and I had the pleasure of shooting Paul and Elise’s wedding in Chicago a few weeks ago. There was no way I wasn’t going to share the best tux I’ve ever seen in real life on here, regardless of shooting it “above the line.” More men should be getting married in Made to Measure tuxedo’s. Paul’s midnight navy blue tux, shirt, bow tie and suspenders are all from Suitsupply. I love the casual touch of the J.Crew grosgrain strap on his Timex watch (a gift from his parents when he was seven). His shoes are Cole Haan.

Music Monday – Reptar

November 12, 2012

Anyone else need a little kick in the face to get going on this Monday?

And by kick in the face, I do mean a little somethin’ somethin’ to get you moving in your office chair.

Done.

It’s a Reptar morning. Referred to by Paste Magazine as “Southern-fried electronic Afro-poppers,” this Athens, Georgia band is sure put a little hop in your step. Plain and simple, you need them in your ears.

Stream: “Sebastian”

Football Friday | Carolina Blue

November 2, 2012

Lifelong UNC fan

Raised in:
Born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. My family now lives in Greenville, North Carolina.

Lives in:
Jasper, Georgia

Favorite thing about Chapel Hill:
Chapel Hill is the perfect college town…down to earth people, great food and music, eclectic culture, and the most contagious team spirit ever.  Particularly on basketball game day, the air is different in Chapel Hill. It’s great. I was born with Carolina Blue blood. My whole family went to Chapel Hill. Although I chose to attend a smaller college in Birmingham called Samford University, I still root for the Heels any chance I get.

Now would ya look at that:

  • Buffalo Jackson washed blue hat (c/o).
  • American Eagle shirt.
  • Mountain Khakis belt and Teton buckle.
  • prAna pants.

Him: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Her:
 Athens, Georgia

Lives in:
We both moved to Philadelphia three years ago. Erich just finished up his Masters in City Planning at The University of Pennsylvania, and I am finishing up my BA in Art History at Temple University.

Favorite southern wedding tradition:
We both agree that our favorite thing about a traditional southern wedding is the down home southern food. Now when we have the opportunity to travel home from the north east for a wedding, we get excited about the tradition of gathering friends and family around the table and eating the food that we grew up with

Now would ya look at that:
Walkin’ down to the ceremony of this wedding.

On Her: Zara dress, J.Crew bracelets, Steve Madden platforms.

On Him: J.Crew suit, shirt, tie, watch, socks and Florsheim cap toe brogue shoes.

Music Monday – Robert Kelly

October 22, 2012

 Photographed by Melissa Madison Fuller

The first Robert Kelly song I heard was his Christmas single last year. It was one of the many songs I shared during last years Merry Music Monday series, and I promised to share more of Robert’s music again. So here I am, doing so, finally.

What was I waiting for? I’d already listened to his album We Are Poetry about a dozen times. I knew what song I wanted to share. But with talk of the two of us grabbing beers in Nashville, I decided to wait to meet Robert in person. At the end of September, I found out that to share a table with Robert is to be in the presence of joy, a contagious personality, and of course; talent. He radiates the catchy energy of songs like “We Are Poetry,” and you leave knowing you’ve met the genuine man that comes out in my favorite tune from his album, “Running Faster.”

______

Raised in:
Allen, Texas. It’s a suburb of Dallas where football reigns supreme and everyone drives a big truck (I played football and drove a big truck, go figure). I have two wonderful parents who did the raising, and a sister who I terrorized during the raising, and we’re really close now!

Lives in:
Nashville, Tennessee

Favorite thing about We Are Poetry:
The opportunity to make it. I had just graduated from college and thought “what I need to do to be a singer/songwriter is make an album…and what I really need to make an album is some money.”  So I worked at a fancy cocktail bar in Nashville for a while, saved up, and got to have a blast making an album with extremely talented new friends that really represents me, and it’s been a huge adventure ever since, wandering around playing lots of shows.

How the South influences your sound:
The South influences my songwriting in a huge way because when I began taking music seriously in seventh grade, I wanted to be a country singer.  I wore boots, jeans, a hat, and even had the half black/half white shirt like Garth Brooks. That’s definitely changed, but even more than that, the South, to me, means long, hot summers, driving with the windows down blasting The Rocket Summer, fun., or John Mayer. I like to think I bring that with me everywhere I go.

Lifelong Auburn Fan

Raised in:
Montgomery, Alabama

Lives in:
Atlanta, Georgia

Favorite game day tradition:
I’m an Auburn fan, so I grew up steeped in Tiger Walks and get chills every time the eagle circles the stadium. But you can’t beat belting out your fight song. At four, I was taught the words were “Give a yell, give a yell, stand up and yell ‘HEY!'” Then I went to college. And then I realized Mama and Daddy sanitized my mouth with a profanity-free watered down version in 1992 and never bothered to tell me otherwise.

Now would ya look at that:

  • Sweater from Stella Boutique in Lincoln, Nebraska. “Listen, sometimes you go weird places for work and need to shop.”
  • Francesca’s dress.
  • J.Crew belt.
  • Sister’s boots. “We ‘share’ clothes. And by ‘share,’ I mean we tell each other what we’re borrowing only about 60% of the time.
