Photographed in Atlanta, GA

Raised in:
Louisville, Kentucky

Lives in:
Atlanta, Georgia

Favorite five minutes in your boots:
3:30 AM, front row at The Stage in Nashville, “With or Without You,” live.

Now would ya look at that:
In the words of Will: “I looked for this pair of boots for over two years, thinking that I’ll know them when I see them…and then I saw them. Two soles and countless shines later, this pair of Luccheses are just starting to look broken in.” They’re paired perfect with his Levi 514’s.

Photographed in Talking Rock, GA

Raised in:
Spring, Texas

Lives in:
Nashville, Tennessee

Favorite southern treat to bake:
I was raised on Texas Sheet Cake to celebrate any special occasion, or let’s be honest, your morning cup of coffe. Like any good mother, mine taught me to know the recipe by heart and I always have the ingredients on hand!

Now would ya look at that:
One of my very best friends, Caroline Tigner, who, since we share a first name, I call “Tig.”

  • 1883’s by Lucchese.
  • Kendra Scott Jeanine earrings.

7 in 7 – Drew + Ellie

February 14, 2012

Photographed in Nashville, TN

Raised in:
Him: Memphis, TN
Her: Nashville and Franklin, TN

Lives in:
Nashville, TN

Favorite bar in Nashville:
We love The Patterson House. It’s quiet enough to hear the folks you’re enjoying a drink with. It feels like a speakeasy as you walk through a velvet curtain into a dimly lit room with incredible vibe. They put your receipt in an old book before you sign it for them. The bartenders know what they’re doing and can always give a good recommendation based on your likings, and every drink is worth every penny of the $11 you’ll spend. That’s saying a lot.

Now would ya look at that:
Drew + Ellie Holcomb, who are no stranger to this blog. Get Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors Chasing Someday (Deluxe Edition), released yesterday, for $3.99 on Amazon!

On Him: Lucchese boots from Hinton and Hinton in Oxford, Mississippi. Shirt from The North End, now a closed restaurant on North Main in Memphis, one of his favorite places to eat as a kid.

Her: Purchased these “pre-loved” boots, along with two other pairs, at a western store in Taos, New Mexico for $150! It was a “B” sale day, so anything that started with “B” was over half price off. The man who sold them to her was a genuine gentleman and cowboy. Ellie gets these re-soled almost every year because she wears them so often.

Strut

February 10, 2012

Photographed in Jasper, GA

Raised in:
Spartanburg, South Carolina

Lives in:
Nashville, Tennessee

Favorite item in closet:
I have a bunch of Nike dunks & Nike SB’s that I don’t wear often. They stay in boxes and come out for special occasions. I’d say those, or my Carolina Panthers Steve Smith jersey.

Now would ya look at that:
Hey, it’s Jamie Clayton, strutting in a Billy Reid bow tie and Cole Haan Air Colton wingtips. Jamie is formerly known as “The Ginger Beard Man!”

Howyou?

February 1, 2012

Photographed in Atlanta, GA

Raised in:
Opelika, Alabama

Lives in:
Atlanta, Georgia

What the south sounds like to you:
I never realized until college or until I moved to Atlanta that no one else calls there mom “Mother,” with a strong molasses like emphasis on the first syllable. Or that around small town south people politely ask “howyou?” instead of “how are you?”

Now would ya look at that:
Her grandfather’s original Ray Bans.

FashionABLE

January 19, 2012

Photographed in Jasper, GA

Raised in:
Nashville and Franklin, Tennessee

Lives in:
Nashville, Tennessee

Favorite book set in the south:
To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s a classic, and you can almost smell and hear and taste the south as you read through the pages and fall in love with the characters.

Now would ya look at that:

  • FashionABLE scarf. Ellie and her husband Drew got involved with FashionABLE through their partnership with Mocha Club. Every purchase of a fashionABLE scarf creates sustainable business for women in Africa. “We love Barret, who started FashionABLE, and his passion to help these women who have once been caught up in prostitution to find hope and dignity in their work is contagious! If you join my team, $7 dollars a month can provide spiritual, emotional, and psychological counseling for women at risk in Ethiopia. It also helps these women find alternate means of income to support themselves and their children through FashionABLE.”
  • Join Ellie’s Mocha Club team and receive a free copy of her Magnolia EP.
  • Purchased the red crewneck sweater because it reminded her of her moms senior pictures. “She looked beautiful and wore a red crewneck sweater, so there’s something classic and sentimental to me about wearing something like she did when she was younger.”
  • Vintage cowboy boots from a western wear store in Taos, New Mexico.

French Quartering

January 17, 2012

Photographed in New Orleans, LA

Raised in:
Spring, Texas

Lives in:
Jasper, Georgia

Highlight from our recent trip to New Orleans:
In Louisiana, the answer is always “food.” We ate one of the best brunches of our lives at Stanley: boudin, cheese, poached eggs, cornmeal-crusted oysters with creole hollandaise sauce, all over french bread. We also were eager to try a John Besh restaurant. Domenica did not disappoint, as I quickly declared the pizza in the top five best I’ve ever had.

Now would ya look at that:
This has become my cool weather uniform: Etienne Aigner riding boots, J.Crew cords (these champagne ones are my current favorite), classic oxford, and Patagonia retro vest. My favorite watch was found for $5 at an antique shop in Decatur, Georgia.

The Happy Couple

January 11, 2012

Photographed in Franklin, TN

Raised in:
Him: Nashville, Tennessee
Her: Chicago, Illinois

Lives in:
Splits time at homes in Nashville and Chicago.

Favorite southern city:
Him: Definitely have to be Oxford, Mississippi. While I may be biased having attended Ole Miss, the atmosphere around the town is unmatched by any other place I’ve ever been. With a top-notch social scene, shopping on the Square, and great food (from places like City Grocery, Handy Andy’s, and Chevron…yes, the gas station). I miss it everyday!
Her: Nashville. Hillsboro Village, The Gulch and the 12th South areas of town remind me of some of my favorite “neighborhoody” spots in Chicago with their cute boutiques and tasty restaurants. And Broadway is people-watching at its finest. Nashville will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s where I met the love of my life!

Now would ya look at that:
Y’all met Paul yesterday, now add Elise to the picture and you’ve got a happily engaged couple! This image was taken during their engagement session and we had a blast wandering the streets of Franklin with them.

On Him:

  • L.B.M. 1911 houndstooth sport coat.
  • Paul Stuart pocket square.
  • Howard Yount double monk strap shoes.

On Her:

  • Billy Reid Scout dress.
  • Favorite scarf (a gift from her mom, who found it in a boutique in downtown Franklin).
  • Cole Haan suede boots.

Paul

January 10, 2012

Photographed in Franklin, TN

Raised in:
Nashville, Tennessee

Lives in:
Splits time at homes in Nashville and Chicago.

While spending your time in Chicago, what do you miss most about the south:
The relaxed pace of life. Everything just happens quicker up there. Also, the streets of Chicago are built on a grid, and I miss driving through the windy roads in the hills around Nashville. Lastly, it’s way too cold in Illinois.

Now would ya look at that:
Meet Paul, the man behind Dreams of Perfection.

  • L.B.M. 1911 sport coat.
  • Rugby Ralph Lauren oxford button down.
  • F.M. Allen hoof-pick belt.
  • Edward Green loafers found at Flip.
